Kailua Intermediate School (KIS) serves students in the 7th and 8th grades. Students must reside within the school district with their parent(s) or legal guardian. Students living outside of the school district who wish to attend the KIS must apply for a Geographic Exception (which is due by March 1st for the upcoming school year). Students transferring from other schools, private or public, must bring a release from that school.

Requirements for New Students Entering Hawaii Public Schools:

You will need:

Birth Certificate, immunization records , a physical within the last year, a TB clearance within the last year, and proof of residence such as electric bill, copy of lease etc. We also need any withdrawal paperwork from the previous school including withdrawal grades, report card, transcripts.

Registration

Absenses:

Please call Attendance Line: (808) 307-1374 to report an absence for your child. Please provide your child’s name, reason for absence, and expected date of return. Assignments may be provided by request after the second day of a student’s absence. Request for assignments must be called in to the school by 9:00am for pick up that afternoon. Teachers determine whether or not assignments can be provided, so when a student returns from an absence, they must meet with the teacher and determine a schedule to complete any missing work.

Please keep in mind that the process of education is not simply completing written assignments. It requires a teacher who gives instruction, provides practice (work) for students, and then makes an assessment of their progress. Some assignments simply can’t be provided to students who miss class.

Assignments that are provided may be retrieved after 3:00 PM in the front office of the school.
