Aloha Kailua Intermediate School,
My name is Nathan Maeda and I’m honored to have been selected as the new principal of Kailua Intermediate School. I am excited about joining the KIS community and look forward to our work together. I would first like to recognize Mrs. Jill Laboy for her outstanding leadership these last 5 years. I know she will be greatly missed. I also want to thank Mr. Joseph Wood for serving as TA principal this last month during this transition. Their dedication and service to KIS is greatly appreciated.
I come to KIS from Maunawili Elementary where I served as principal for 6 years. Prior to that, I was a Vice Principal at Waikele Elementary, Assistant Principal at Waipahu High School and a TA Vice Principal at Highlands Intermediate and Waipahu Intermediate. I began my educational career as a 7th and 8th grade English teacher at Waipahu Intermediate. My wife Kimberly is the principal at Kailua High School and my twins are about to enter the 5th grade at Kainalu Elementary. We reside in Kaneohe, where I was born and raised.
When I began my teaching career, I knew that Middle School education was my calling and so I’m grateful for this opportunity. I can’t wait to connect with our students, staff, families and school community to continue cultivating a safe learning environment that fosters student learning and growth. I am confident we will achieve great things together. Take care and I hope everyone is enjoying time with their family and friends this summer.
